KIDNEY CRISIS

The Australian Kidney Foundation has warned of a potential health crisis.

Dr Tim Mathew said we are at the cross roads facing a potential epidemic in kidney
failure in Australia.

One in seven adults is in danger of developing kidney damage.

About 1900 Australians rely on dialysis each year, a number that is increasing by 6%
each year.

1490 people are waiting for a kidney transplant

Infections and allergies can damage the kidney over time.

The taking of too many drug medications, especially pain killers and anti inflammatory drugs
that contain paracetamol and phenacetin, will damage the kidney, especially when insufficient water is consumed during summer and the drugs become concentrated in the kidney.

The chemical colourings, flavourings and preservatives in food can build up in the kidneys and cause damage.

Taking a good multivitamin and mineral tablet daily provides antioxidant protection against chemical and drug buildup damage.

Drinking 8-10 glasses of fluid per day prevents drug and chemical concentration in the kidneys.

Avoiding chills in the kidney (cold winds, damp environments, sitting on cold surfaces, too long in the surf) enables a strong blood flow through the kidney with good kidney clearance of drug and chemical residuals.

Getting adequate rest and preventing fatigue enables a strong kidney blood flow and clearance rate.
