SOUP - IMMUNE SYSTEM AND ENERGY BOOSTING SOUP

Into a large pot of water put as broad a spectrum of chopped up vegetables as possible.

Add a shank (leg) bone of calf or lamb – sawn into several pieces.

Spinal cord bones (vertebrae) of calf or lamb – sawn – may also be used, together with or instead of the shank bone.

Add the following raw herbs: 

  • Ginseng root – Radix ginseng – ren shen 50-100 grams 
  • Astragalus root - Radix Astragali membranaceus – huang qi 50-100 grams 
  • Chinese Angelica root – Radix Angelica Sinenses – dang gui 50-100 grams 
  • Velvet of young deer antler – Cornu cervi Pavum - Lu rong 50-100 grams 
  • Raw ginger, garlic, salt and black pepper may be added to taste. As may a soup stock of your choice.

Black sesame seeds and lentils are an optional extra – if thicker soup is desired.

Bring to the boil then simmer slowly for 3 hours on a low heat.

Have with wholemeal bread spread with cold pressed flax seed oil for breakfast, or lunch or early dinner.

Having too late at night could disturb sleep.

The marrow in the shank bone is better for strengthening the blood.

The marrow in the spinal cord bone is better for strengthening the brain.

Chinese herbs are obtainable from any Chinese herbalist or Chinese herb shop.
